The dog rose has a rich history, as its medical uses date back to the time of Hippocrates.  The roots, foliage, blooms, and hips were all used to treat various ailments and the name was attributed to a belief that the root could be used to cure the bite of a rabid dog.  However, given all of the advancements made since then, it might be best to let modern medicine tackle this one!
